The Fortune Cookie

Last night, I broke open a fortune cookie with this message for me. It hit close to home as I thought about how I and many of my solopreneur friends struggle while trying to wear too many hats at one time.  For many of us, it seems the bigger the aspiration, the more ambiguous the pathway to get there.

Knowing our true potential and knowing how to get there are two very different things. We can get lost in the how when hard times and challenges hit below the belt.

It’s at these times we need to refocus our connection with God and express gratitude to Him for our bodies, lives, and the amazing world we get to experience every moment of the day.  It’s through this place of gratitude and connection that we position ourselves to receive His light in guiding us to the “how”.

It’s common for us to compare ourselves with others in our field or where we think we should be, verses where we are currently.

Being a divorced mom of 4 young children and a solopreneur, I’ve experienced these feelings.  I’ve noticed that as my goals for the future grow bigger than my current abilities, the more I felt overwhelmed I feel.  It began to make me feel heavy and discouraged. This feeling left me frozen and stuck for years, that is until I was given this gift.

Have you felt like this and asked yourself the following questions?

“Am I really good enough? Do I know enough? Will I be rejected by those who I want to serve? What if I fail? What if I never make it to my happily ever after?”

I’ve asked all these questionsimages (5) too, and at first I completely rejected the answers to these questions. It made me feel uneasy and frustrated. But, as I let it really sink in, I’ve found them so liberating.

The answer is: No, you and I aren’t; we don’t; yep, we should expect rejection; and maybe we’ll find it.

Let’s be truthful with yourselves, we will never be good enough in this life, we don’t know enough now, we will be rejected more times than we can count, and we will undoubtedly fail more than a 1,000 times before the year ends.

We are human!

Stop waiting for a magic pill to give you the courage and happiness you desire, decide now to take action! As a young woman, I hung this quote on my mirror. I loved it!  It became part of me as I developed into a woman of courage:

“Courage is not a lack of fear; it’s taking action in spite of fear.”

Don’t let the disappointment of where you are now compared to your “eternal perspective” keep you unhappy and stuck in ambiguity. Our life’s mission is simply to gain innumerable skills in life through experiences of learning, developing talents, improving, being humble, learning to fully loving yourself, all of God’s creations, and following His voice.   iStock_000018245321Small_610_300_s_c1_center_center

The greatest work you will ever do in this life is to forgive, love and accept yourself for who you are and for how God created you. By doing this every day, you are honoring God’s most precious gift to you.

Forget yourself and your insecurities. Go serve the world in the best way you can today! We are called to serve, lift, and build ourselves and others! This is your true and greatest potential in this life!
